February 19, 2025

Bavaria Sausage was awarded 49 medals and “Cup of Honour” at the DFV-AAMP

co-sponsored event in Ames, IA (Jan 27-30). Ham, bacon and sausage were judged according to traditional standards by German representatives from Deutscher Fleischer-Verband (DFV) and American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP). This was the first time Bavaria Sausage products were known to be judged by DFV.  30 out of 50 products presented received zero deductions, each earning a Gold medal.

Scott Stowell of Bavaria Sausage, "We are honored and humbled to receive such high praise from DFV/AAMP. The fact we’re still meeting Fred Voll’s high expectations and DFV standards ten years after his passing demonstrates Fred’s commitment to butchers’ trade and sausage making. His legacy is alive and well."

Bavaria Sausage was founded in Fitchburg, WI over 60 years ago by Fred Voll an immigrant Wurstmacher (Master Sausage Maker) and his wife Käthe, who still frequents the store. The "Bavaria brand" is recognized by locals and enthusiasts for the highest quality smoked meat, sausage and traditional German and Alpine products.

DFV officials said in a formal statement, “The quality competitions of the German Butchers’ Association not only serve to review our own performance, but they show in a specific way the high quality and diversity of your products to your customers. The excellent quality of your products also contributes to the positive image of the U.S. butchers’ trade. Based on the rating of your products you have qualified for the cup of honour for special achievements in the DFV-AAMP Quality Competition 2025."

The awards will be formally presented on May 6, 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany at the international trade fair for the meat industry, IFFA. It is a prestigious, week-long showcase of the top butchers and master sausage makers in the world. Craftsmen who have spent their entire lives perfecting their art seek to prove themselves among the best butchers and sausage makers in the world.

Many IFFA competitors cook up special recipes for the competition to impress judges. Bavaria Sausage, on the other hand, presented off-the-shelf products to compete with the world’s finest. "We felt the products right out of our coolers, available every day for our customers would show well," said Scott.
